Not opposed to the proposed change: Jardines.
Opposed to the proposed change:
65
Dunlop Rubber Co. (China), Ltd.
Asiatic Petroleum Co. (N.C.),
Ltd.
Jardines are a Hongkong Company and are, therefore, not affected.
Dunlops would not oppose the change provided those who wish to
use the prefix are not prevented from so doing.
The A.P.C. object to the principle underlying our suggestion, but,
being incorporated in England, are not concerned.
As the Chamber of Commerce were, I believe, concerned with
the original insertion of the provision, I think it would be as
well if they would take the matter up and consider it in detail.
It may be that some very good reason still exists for preserving
the provision, and no doubt the records of the Chamber or of its
members will be very helpful in this connection.
If the Chamber, after investigation, come to the conclusion
that, in the interests of the ir members as a whole, amendment of
the Ordinance should be sought, I think it would ensure success
and expedition if the Chamber, rather than an individual company
such as ours, were to carry the matter to a conclusion.
15th November, 1934.
